Rethink Your Drink

Posted by Corporate 08/02/2012
Sugary drinks, such as pop or juice, may hurt more than just your teeth! Not only do drinks high in sugar add empty calories to your diet, but it also raises your blood sugar. This could lead to hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and diabetes. It also may increase your risk of cardiovascular disease. Although the fruits and vegetables we eat naturally contain sugar, other foods, including condiments, can have added sugars. According to the Mayo Clinic, adult women should get no more than 24 grams of added sugar each day (about 6 teaspoons). Men should have less than 36 grams per day (9 teaspoons). A great way to cut sugar from your diet is to rethink your drink. You would be surprised at the amount of added sugars many of our favorite drinks have!
